Zwergdackel - Miniature dachshund

Everything you need to know about dwarf dachshunds: origin, classification, appearance and coat types

**Origin and history

The dachshund, also known as the Dachshund, has its roots in the Middle Ages. Bred from Bracken dogs, this breed developed for hunting underground. The Deutscher Teckelklub 1888 e.V. is the oldest breeding club for dachshunds and looks after breeding in three sizes (dachshund, dwarf dachshund, rabbit dachshund) and three coat varieties (shorthair, roughhair, longhair).

Appearance and character:.

The dachshund is characterized by short legs, a long body and a boldly carried head. Despite their short legs, they are nimble and agile. Their temperament is balanced, not fearful, but not aggressive either. As passionate hunting dogs, they are agile, persistent and have an excellent nose. The Miniature Dachshund is self-confident, courageous and combative.

**Coat types

There are three different types of dachshund coat. Short-haired dachshunds have a short, dense coat in various colors. Rough-haired dachshunds have a wiry, dense top coat with a beard on the muzzle. Long-haired dachshunds have a shiny coat with undercoat and longer hairs in certain areas, including a noticeable flag on the tail.
